Okay, so, I’ve been on this whole DIY kick lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I saw these super cute women’s poplin boxer shorts online, and I was like, “I can totally make those.” How hard could it be, right? Famous last words.
First, I went online and looked at a bunch of different styles. I saw that most of them were made with this poplin fabric, which I guess is pretty common for boxers. They also had this elastic waistband and some even had pockets. I decided I wanted pockets, because who doesn’t love pockets?
Then, I started hunting for a pattern. I figured I could just find one online, print it out, and be good to go. There were some, but they didn’t have the style with pockets I wanted. But I managed to find a decent one and decided to make some adjustments along the way.
Next up was the fabric. I went to the fabric store, and oh boy, was that an experience. There were so many choices! I finally found some poplin fabric that I liked – it was a cute pattern, not too loud, but still fun. Then, I spent like an hour just looking at all the other fabrics, because why not?
After that, it was time to actually start making the shorts. I got everything laid out – fabric, pattern, scissors, pins, sewing machine. I carefully cut out the pattern pieces, making sure to follow the lines as best as I could. Then, I pinned the fabric together according to the pattern instructions.
- Sewing the side seams together was the first step. That was pretty straightforward.
- Then, I had to sew the inseam, which was a little trickier, but I managed.
- Next, I tackled the pockets. I used the pattern I had and added the pockets to the side seam.
- After that, it was time for the waistband. I measured out the elastic, sewed it into a loop, and then attached it to the top of the shorts. This was probably the hardest part, to be honest.
Finally, I hemmed the bottom of the shorts, and voila! I had a pair of homemade women’s poplin boxer shorts. They weren’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of myself. They fit well, they were comfy, and they had pockets! I wore them around the house all day, feeling like a DIY queen.
So, that’s my story of making poplin boxer shorts. It was a bit of a challenge, but definitely a fun one. I’d say it’s a good project for someone who’s a beginner at sewing, but maybe not a complete newbie. And hey, if I can do it, you can too!
