Well, ain’t this somethin’! You got a bun in the oven, and now you gotta tell the old man. It ain’t rocket science, but you wanna do it right, make it special, ya know? Don’t just blurt it out like you seen a mouse. This here’s important.
First off, think about your man. Is he the type that likes a big fuss or somethin’ simple? My Jeb, he was a simple fella, didn’t need no fancy stuff. If your man’s like that, just sit him down after supper, maybe when he’s got his feet up, and say it straight. “Honey,” you say, “we got us a little one comin’.” Keep it short and sweet. He’ll get the message, don’t you worry.
But if your man likes a bit of a show, well then, you gotta get creative. I heard tell of some gals doin’ some right clever things.
- The Gift Box Trick: You could get yourself a little box, ya know, like the kind you put jewelry in. But instead of jewelry, you stuff it with baby things. A little bitty sock, maybe a pacifier. Tie it up all pretty with a ribbon. Then, when he ain’t lookin’, you slip it to him. “Got you a little somethin’,” you say, with a twinkle in your eye. He opens it up and… bam! He gets the picture. This one is real cute, I reckon. It’s like a little surprise all wrapped up.
- The Sweet Treat: Another thing you can do is bake him somethin’. Men always like a good pie or cake. But here’s the kicker: you write “We’re having a baby!” on top with frosting. Or, if you ain’t much of a baker, you buy a cake and get the bakery to write it for ya. He’ll be too busy eatin’ that sweet stuff to notice at first, then he’ll see it and his jaw will drop, I tell ya.
- The Picture Perfect Moment: Now this one’s a bit modern, but it’s cute. You get yourself a picture frame, but instead of a picture, you put the pregnancy test in there. Or, you can put the ultrasound picture, if you got one already. Wrap it up like a present or just hand it to him straight. It’s a good way to let the picture do the talking. He’ll have a keepsake, too, somethin’ to remember this moment by.
- The T-Shirt Tell: I saw a gal once, she got a t-shirt made. It said somethin’ like “World’s Best Dad” or “Daddy to Be.” She just wore it around the house like nothin’ was up. Took her man a little bit to notice, but when he did, he was mighty surprised! You can even get a matching one for yourself, says “Mommy to be,” ain’t that sweet?
But listen here, no matter how you tell him, it’s gotta come from the heart. Don’t be nervous. This is a happy time, a time for joy. And remember, he’s in this with you. It ain’t just your baby, it’s y’all’s baby.
And one more thing, before you go blabbin’ to everyone else, make sure you tell your husband first. He’s the daddy, he deserves to know before your sister or your best friend or the whole darn town. It’s a respect thing, ya know? You wouldn’t want him hearin’ it from someone else, would ya?
So there you have it. Just a few ideas from an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. You pick what feels right for you and your man. And congratulations, honey! This here’s a blessin’, a real miracle. Enjoy every minute of it, even the kickin’ and the wakin’ up in the middle of the night. It all goes by faster than you think.
And don’t forget to tell him you love him when you tell him the news. That’s the most important part, I reckon. A little love goes a long way, especially when you’re startin’ a family.
Now go on, get to tellin’ your husband! And good luck to you, you young mama-to-be!
