Hey there, you young folks! Let’s gab a bit about them 70’s wedding suits, ya know? Back in the day, things were real different, not like all this fancy stuff you see now.
What Them Suits Looked Like
So, the suits, they weren’t like them skinny things you fellas wear today. We’re talkin’ big collars, real big, sometimes flappin’ around like bird wings. And the pants? Oh honey, them pants were somethin’ else. Bell bottoms, they called ‘em. Wide as a barn door at the bottom, you could hide a whole chicken in each leg, I swear! Colors? Think browns, and oranges, and greens… like the dirt and the trees and the grass, you know? Not all matchy-matchy like today, either. Sometimes a brown jacket with tan pants, maybe a funky vest thrown in. Them vests, some were knitted, some were shiny, all kinds.
- Big collars on the jackets.
- Bell-bottom pants, real wide at the bottom.
- Lots of earth tones – browns, greens, oranges.
- Vests were a big thing, knitted or shiny.
Shirts and Shoes to Go With
Now, you couldn’t just wear any old shirt with a suit like that. Long collars were the thing, pointy and sharp, sometimes with ruffles, for cryin’ out loud. And tight tees, some fellas liked them, real tight, showin’ off everything their mamas gave ‘em, if you know what I mean. And the shoes! Platforms, they were called. Thick soles, made ya taller, like walkin’ on stilts, but fancier. Some were leather, some were shiny, some even had them buckles. Made a fella look real important, or at least he thought so.
For the Ladies, Too
And the girls, well, they had their own thing goin’ on. Sometimes a suit, yeah, like that Bianca lady, with nothin’ underneath the jacket, scandalous! But mostly dresses, flowy and long, or short and sassy, dependin’ on the girl. Lots of crochet, you know, them little knitted things? And sleeves, fluttery sleeves, like butterfly wings. And the disco, oh honey, the disco changed everything. Shiny stuff, sparkly stuff, made everyone look like they were ready to dance all night long.
Why Wear Old Stuff Anyway?
Now, you might be thinkin’, why bother with old clothes? Well, let me tell ya, some of them old clothes, they’re made better than the stuff they sell today. Stronger fabric, better sewin’, lasts longer. And sometimes, you just want somethin’ different, somethin’ special, somethin’ that nobody else has. Plus, it’s fun, you know? Dressin’ up like you’re from a different time, like you’re in a movie or somethin’. It’s like playin’ dress-up, but for grown-ups.
Finding a 70’s Suit Today
So, where ya gonna find one of these suits today? Well, that’s the tricky part. Ain’t nobody makin’ ‘em new anymore, not like that. You gotta go huntin’. Thrift stores, antique shops, maybe even your grandma’s attic, you never know. There’s places online too, I hear, but I don’t know much about that computery stuff. Just be careful, make sure it fits, make sure it’s clean, and don’t pay too much, them folks tryin’ to rip you off sometimes.
Weddings Back Then
Weddings back then weren’t so big and fancy like you see on TV now, at least not where I came from. More about gettin’ hitched and havin’ a good time with family and friends. Music, food, dancin’, that’s all ya needed. And a good suit, of course! The 70’s were a wild time, fashion wise and everything else, so if you want to do a 70s theme wedding, go all out, have fun and don’t worry too much if things aren’t “perfect”. That’s the 70s spirit.
Making it Your Own
And listen, you don’t have to be a stickler for the rules. If you find a 70’s suit, but you wanna wear it with modern shoes, go for it! If you wanna add a bright tie, or a funky hat, do it! It’s your wedding, your style, you do what makes you happy. That’s the most important thing, no matter what you love. Don’t let nobody tell you different. And if you can find a good deal, and get it shipped fast, even better!
So there you have it, a little somethin’ about 70’s wedding suits. Hope it helps ya, and if you do end up gettin’ hitched in one of them things, send me a picture, ya hear?
