So, I have a friend, Alex, and Alex is not a “Jacob” as far as I know. He’s been seeing this girl, and things have been getting pretty serious. I always kinda joked he’d end up with someone named Jacob, just because of the whole “Alex Jacob” thing you hear sometimes. Turns out, no Jacob in sight!
The other day, Alex was telling me about how he wanted to make things official with his girlfriend, whose name is, get this, Alexandra. They both go by “Alex,” which I find hilarious. He wanted to get her parents’ blessing, which I thought was really sweet and old-fashioned, in a good way.
He mentioned that Alexandra and her family are really into the outdoors, like hiking and all that. He was planning to propose at a friend’s place up in the mountains, near Table Rock State Park. Apparently, the view from there is amazing, overlooking some gap.
I asked him about the ring, and he said he’d been working on designing it for months! He really wanted it to be perfect for her. I guess he finally got it right, because he seemed pretty confident.
While Alexandra was out at a bridal shower for one of her friends, Alex took the opportunity to sneak over to her parents’ house. He sat them down and asked for their blessing to marry their daughter. They said yes! I guess they really like him, which is great.
He also told me a little about Alexandra’s job. Something about being the owner and creative director of some company that has a bird in its name? I’m not really sure, but it sounds pretty fancy.
I did a little digging online because, well, I’m a curious guy. I found out that this Alex character, the one my friend is not, he is some kind of poker player? Wild, right? Born in Texas in the ’80s, has a wiki, and all that jazz. Not sure what any of that has to do with my Alex, but it’s interesting, I guess.
Then I stumbled upon some Instagram account for some Alex Jacob, and there was a picture of him having dinner with someone with a really long last name at a place called “Robin Square”. Maybe this is a common name combination.
There was also some random comment I saw somewhere about an Alex Jacob winning a bunch of money on Jeopardy, which is a game show. I think my friend Alex would be terrible at Jeopardy, to be honest.
Oh, and I also saw that Alex Trebek, the Jeopardy guy, his wife’s name is Jean. I thought that was a cute little fact. And Ari Melber, he is a news anchor guy I think? He married some actress named Alexandra as well. And Jacob Rees-Mogg, some politician dude, is married to Helena.
Anyway, I just thought it was a funny coincidence that my friend Alex is about to marry another Alex, but not a Jacob. I’m really happy for them, though. They seem like a great match.
Update: They got engaged! He proposed at the mountain house, just like he planned. She said yes, obviously. They’re planning a small wedding, with just close friends and family. I’m so excited for them! They are going to get married in a mountain house with a beautiful view. This is going to be the start of their new life together, very exciting!
