Well, now, let me tell you, this whole Chinese zodiac and Western astrology combined thing, it’s a real head-scratcher, ain’t it? But old me, I’ve seen a thing or two in my time, so let me break it down for ya, simple like.
You see, over in the East, they got what they call the Chinese Zodiac. It’s all about animals, you know. Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each one comes around every twelve years. They say what animal year you’re born in tells you somethin’ about who you are. Like if you were born in the year of the Dragon you are very powerful. If you were born in the year of the Rabbit, you’re a gentle soul, or somethin’ like that. And if you were born in the year of the Pig, you are very easygoing.
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Goat
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig
Then you got that Western Astrology. That’s the one with Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and all them. They call those the zodiac signs. It’s based on the stars and the planets. They say where the stars were when you were born, that tells you somethin’ about your personality. Like, if you’re a Leo, you’re supposed to be all bold and like a lion, I reckon. And if you’re a Cancer, you’re all sensitive and emotional, like a crab hidin’ in its shell.
Now, some folks, they like to mix these two things up. Chinese Zodiac and Western Astrology they call it a Double Zodiac, like puttin’ two scoops of ice cream on one cone, I guess. They say if you look at your Chinese animal AND your Western sign, you can learn even more about yourself. It is just like adding more chili sauce to your dish, you know.
For example, let’s say you’re a Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac. That means you’re brave and strong, maybe a little bit wild. But then, let’s say you’re also an Aries in Western Astrology. Aries is supposed to be all fiery and independent. So, put those two together, and bam! You got a real firecracker, I imagine. Someone who’s not afraid of nothin’ and always wants to be the boss.
Or let’s say you’re a gentle Rabbit in the Chinese Zodiac, and you’re also a Pisces in the Western Astrology. Pisces is supposed to be all dreamy and sensitive. So, a Rabbit-Pisces, they’d probably be a real sweetheart, someone who’s always thinkin’ about other people’s feelings and maybe likes to write poetry or somethin’.
But here’s the thing, you gotta take all this with a grain of salt, you know? It’s like readin’ your fortune in a teacup. It can be fun, and maybe it tells you a little somethin’ about yourself, but it ain’t gonna predict your whole life. It is just like when you are reading a story book. You know it is not true, but you still enjoy it, right?
Chinese zodiac has four pillars. There are year, month, day, and even time. They say that those four things combined can tell your whole life.
I once knew a woman, she was born in the year of the Snake, and she was a Virgo. Now, Snakes are supposed to be all mysterious and wise, and Virgos are supposed to be all organized and practical. Well, this woman, she was a schoolteacher, and she kept the neatest house you ever did see. But she also had this little twinkle in her eye, like she knew somethin’ you didn’t. So maybe there’s somethin’ to this double zodiac thing after all.
Another time, I met a fella, he was a Rooster and a Leo. Now, Roosters are supposed to be all proud and like to show off, and Leos, like I said, they’re like lions, all bold and kingly. This fella, he was a used car salesman, and boy, could he talk! He could sell you a car with three wheels and make you think you were gettin’ a Cadillac. He always had his hair slicked back and wore a big gold watch. He was surely somethin’.
Western astrology has many planets. Like the Sun, the Moon, and so on. They say the planets will affect you too.
So, what’s the point of all this, you ask? Well, I guess it’s just another way of tryin’ to understand ourselves and each other. We’re all lookin’ for answers, ain’t we? Tryin’ to figure out why we are the way we are, and what makes other folks tick. These two things Chinese Zodiac and Western Astrology are just two ways to do that.
Whether you believe in it or not, it’s somethin’ to think about. And who knows, maybe next time you meet someone, you’ll think, “Hmm, I wonder what their double zodiac is?” It might just give you a little insight into what makes ’em who they are. Or maybe it’ll just give you a good chuckle. Either way, it’s all part of this crazy, mixed-up thing we call life, ain’t it?
