Okay, so I’ve always been a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland, and I have a pretty decent collection of Alice-themed stuff going on. I recently decided I wanted to add some character dolls to my collection, specifically Alice and the Mad Hatter. You know, the ones from the Tim Burton movie with Johnny Depp? Yeah, those.
So, I started looking around. First, I checked out some online shops, but the prices were just crazy high for what seemed to be a hit-or-miss on quality. And, of course, there were some handmade crochet ones selling for around 35 to 44 bucks. I mean, they were cute and all, but not really what I was looking for. I wanted something that looked like the characters from the movie.
Then, I remembered seeing some dolls in actual stores a while back, but I hadn’t really paid attention to the details or the prices then. So, I decided to go on a little adventure and visit a few stores around my area. You wouldn’t believe the range of dolls I found! Some were super cheap and looked like it, while others were so fancy and detailed, they were practically art pieces. But, again, the prices were all over the place. I was looking for something in the middle, you know? Good quality but without breaking the bank.
Hunting for the Perfect Dolls
I spent a whole afternoon store-hopping, and my legs were killing me by the end. But it was kinda fun, like a treasure hunt. I finally stumbled upon this one store that had a decent selection of character dolls. And there they were – Alice and the Mad Hatter, looking pretty good! They were about 17 inches tall, which was a good size. The Mad Hatter one was especially cool, with his crazy hair and detailed outfit. He was wearing these houndstooth pants, a blue waistcoat, and a black vest, just like in the movie. Alice was also pretty accurate, though I was more focused on the Hatter, to be honest.
- The Mad Hatter doll had a great likeness to Johnny Depp’s character.
- Alice’s doll was nice, but the Hatter really stole the show.
- Both dolls were a good size, not too small or too big.
I checked the price tags, and they were reasonable, especially compared to some of the other dolls I’d seen. I also noticed that the Hatter doll was still attached to its box, and there was a sealed bag with his hat and clock accessories. The box for Alice had some oil spots on the tissue, probably from the doll’s hair, but that didn’t really bother me. I mean, I was planning on taking them out of the boxes anyway.
After a bit of debating with myself (as one does when faced with a tough decision), I decided to go for it. I bought both dolls, and I’m so glad I did! They look fantastic in my collection, and they really capture the essence of the characters. They are not as scary as Funko Pop, just perfect. It was totally worth the effort, and I felt like I scored a pretty good deal. Plus, I had a fun day out of it. Win-win!
