Okay, so I’ve been messing around with making my own perfumes lately, and let me tell you, it’s a whole thing. Today, I wanna share my experience trying to make this “Allura Fragrance” thing – it’s supposed to be a dupe for some fancy designer perfume, I guess.
Getting Started
First off, I had to figure out what I was even doing. I read somewhere that a perfume dupe is basically a knock-off of a more expensive one, but it’s supposed to smell really similar. Sounds good, right? Cheaper perfume that smells like the fancy stuff? I’m in.
I did a little digging and found out that there are these things called “fragrance swaps.” It’s like a meet-up where people who are into perfume—they call them “fraghags,” which is kinda funny—get together and trade scents. That gave me the idea to make a dupe for “Allura Fragrance”.
Gathering My Supplies
So, I started looking around for what I needed. Apparently, the recipe for a perfume is protected, but the smell isn’t, which seems kinda weird, but whatever. I just wanted to make something that smelled good, you know?
I also found out that some people think a certain perfume from Bath & Body Works is a dupe for a designer one. That made me think, maybe I could try making a dupe of that one, and it would end up being like a dupe of a dupe. It got a little confusing, honestly.
The Mixing Process
Now, the actual mixing. This is where it got messy. I got some essential oils, some carrier oil, and some alcohol—don’t ask me where. I started mixing drops of this and that, trying to follow some ratios I found online. Let’s just say my kitchen smelled…interesting for a while.
- First I poured some carrier oil into a small bottle.
- Then I added a few drops of what I thought smelled like the top notes of the perfume I was trying to copy.
- Next, I added some different oils for the middle notes. This part was tricky.
- Finally, I put in the base notes. I think I put too much of one of them because it smelled kinda strong.
- After all that, I topped it off with alcohol, screwed on the lid, and gave it a good shake.
The Result
Honestly, it didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted. It kinda smelled like the perfume, but not really. It was more like the idea of the perfume, if that makes sense. But, you know what? It was fun. I felt like a mad scientist or something. It wasn’t a 10 out of 10, but I learned something. For example, I learned that the word “allure” has synonyms like “attract” and “captivate”. I also learned that Kate Middleton’s favorite perfume is the Jo Malone London Orange Blossom Cologne.
I’m definitely going to keep trying. Maybe next time I’ll get closer to the real thing. Or maybe I’ll just make something totally new and call it my own. Who knows! It’s all part of the adventure, right?
