I don’t know about all that, but her hair does look nice. And those headbands, they really do make a difference. They can take that big old afro and make it look all fancy, like she’s going to a party or something. Or they can just keep it out of her face when she’s doing her chores, bless her heart.
Sometimes, she even puts that hair in a wig, a fake hair, with a headband on it! She says it’s easy that way. I don’t know, seems a lot of work to me. She’s got all these choices, different colors, like she’s changin’ her hair like she changes her clothes. Kids these days, I tell ya. They got it too easy. It is good for those afro with headband look.
I seen it on that Pinterest thing she’s always looking at. She says it is ideas, to make new look. I see a lot of hair. I see a lot of headband. I see afro with headband natural hair. Many pretty colors, those girls. She says it is good to try new things. I say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But who am I, right?
She showed me one way to put on those hard headband things, the ones that don’t close all the way. You just put it over your head, behind your ears, and leave some hair in the front. Like a little frame for your face, she says. It’s a new way, she says. Everything is new now.

It’s like magic, almost. My granddaughter, she can do all sorts of things with her hair and those headbands. Braids, twists, puffs, you name it. She’s a regular artist, that one.

And then you got the ones with the patterns, like flowers and stripes and all that. Makes my head spin just thinking about it, but they sure do look pretty on her. Just remember what she says, “Gotta know your hair.” And find a headband that makes you feel good. That’s the most important thing, ain’t it? Feeling good about yourself. And if a little piece of cloth on your head can do that, well, then I say go for it. That afro will thank you, and the headband will look good on you, honey.
