Well, let me tell you, this year, I wanted to be something special for Halloween. Not just any old ghost or goblin. I wanted to be that little girl, Madeline, from them books. You know, the one with the yellow hat? Figured, why not? Halloween ain’t just for the young’uns, right? So, here is what I did for my adult Madeline Halloween costume.
Getting That Madeline Look
First thing’s first, you gotta get that blue dress. That’s what she always wears, that Madeline. A simple, blue dress. Found one at the thrift store, wasn’t too fancy, just plain blue. Like a school uniform. Didn’t need nothin’ special, cause I added other stuff.
- Blue dress – gotta have it!
- Yellow hat – that’s the key!
- White collar – makes it fancy.
- Red ribbon – for the hat, of course!
That yellow hat, now that was important. Couldn’t find one just like hers, but I got a straw hat, painted it bright yellow. Took a few coats, but it looked alright. Then you tie a red ribbon around it. Makes it look just like Madeline’s, almost.
The Little Things Count
Now, Madeline, she’s got that white collar thingy. I didn’t have one, so I just cut one out of an old white sheet. Sewed it on the dress, wasn’t perfect, but it did the trick. And you can put on white socks. And black shoes. Makes it look all put together.
You know what else I did? I got me a little stuffed dog, like Genevieve. Carried him around with me. Folks thought it was cute. Cause everyone knows that dog from the books.
Dressing Up for Halloween
Halloween night, I put on my Madeline costume. Felt kinda silly at first, being all grown up and dressed like a little girl. But you know what? It was fun! Everyone recognized me, kept saying how cute I looked. It is a great adult madeline halloween costume. Made me feel young again, for a little while anyway.
Why You Should Try It
So, if you’re thinking about what to be for Halloween, I say go for it! Be Madeline. It’s easy, it’s fun, and everyone loves that little girl. It’s not hard to put together, either. You can probably find most of the stuff around the house, or at the thrift store. I think that is a easy, DIY Madeline costume.
And don’t worry about being too old for it. Halloween is for everyone, young and old. It’s about having fun, being someone else for a night. And who better to be than that brave little Madeline?
Make it warm
If it is cold outside, you can wear something warm under that dress. A big sweater. Or them long johns. Nobody will see them under the dress. It is important to stay warm on Halloween, you know.
I saw some other folks dressed up as Madeline too. Some of them had their own little touches. One lady had a little purse shaped like the Eiffel Tower. Another one had a whole group of friends dressed up like the other little girls. It was a real hoot!
And you can add all sorts of things to the costume. Like a little book, or a baguette, cause she’s French, you know. Or maybe even a little red wagon, if you’re feeling ambitious. You can do whatever you like, as long as you got that blue dress and yellow hat.
So, don’t be shy! Give it a try. Be Madeline for Halloween. You might just surprise yourself at how much fun you have. And who knows, you might even win a prize for best costume! It is a good choice for adult madeline halloween costume.
It is a good idea to get a bigger dress. That way, you can put on lots of warm clothes underneath. Then you don’t get cold. I always say it’s better to be too warm than too cold. When you are looking for your Madeline costume, you should remember that.
I remember one Halloween, it was so cold my teeth were chattering. I wished I had worn more clothes under my costume. That is why it is a good idea to have a big dress, so you can stay warm.
And if you are going to be outside, you should wear a hat. Not just the yellow Madeline hat, but a warm one underneath. That will keep your head warm. And wear some gloves, too. Your hands get cold real fast.
I hope this helps you with your Halloween costume. It is always fun to dress up. Especially when you are being Madeline.
