Alright, alright, let’s talk about snacks. You know, that little somethin’ somethin’ you stuff in your face in the middle of the day. Some folks call it a “mid-afternoon treat,” real fancy-like. I just call it keepin’ my belly from rumblin’ like a thunderstorm.
Now, I ain’t no doctor or nothin’, but I know what makes me feel good and what makes me feel like a sack of potatoes. You eat that sugary junk, all them candies and donuts, and you’ll be up and down like a yo-yo. Energy high, then crash! Energy slump ain’t no good, makes you wanna just crawl under the covers and take a nap.
So, what do we eat? Well, you gotta find somethin’ that sticks to your ribs, ya know? Somethin’ that keeps ya goin’ without makin’ ya feel all heavy and sluggish. They say healthy snacks are the way to go. Stuff like veggies and that hummus stuff. Never had hummus myself, sounds kinda foreign, but folks seem to like it.
- Veggies and Hummus: Like I said, haven’t tried it, but they say it’s good for ya. Keeps ya full and gives ya energy.
- Yogurt and Fruit: Now this, this I can get behind. A little bit of yogurt, not that sugary stuff, and some fruit. Apples, bananas, whatever you got. Good and simple.
- Peanut Butter and Apple: Slice up an apple and slap some peanut butter on it. Make sure that peanut butter ain’t got no added sugar or nothin’. Just plain ol’ peanut butter. Keeps ya full for a good long while.
That yogurt thing, they say get the low-fat yogurt kind. And don’t go eatin’ a whole bucket of it, just a little bit. And fruit, that’s always good. Nature’s candy, I guess. They say you can even put some of them cereal flakes in it, the whole grain cereal kind, not that sugary stuff the kids like. Adds a little somethin’ extra, ya know?
Sometimes, I just eat a piece of bread with some ham or cheese. Nothin’ fancy, just good eatin’. Or maybe a slice of that cake I made, the one without all that butter and sugar. Even a banana all by itself can do the trick. Fills ya right up. You need somethin’ that keep you full for longer, somethin’ that digests slow and steady. That’s what they say, anyway.
And that peanut butter and apple thing, that’s a good one. Just slice up an apple and put a little bit of peanut butter on it. Not too much, just enough to make it tasty. But read that label, make sure it ain’t got no extra sugar or salt or nothin’. Just plain peanut butter. Experts, whoever they are, say that nuts are good for ya. Healthy snack, they call it.
They talk about great afternoon snack options and easy healthy snacks that will fill you up and not make you feel all bloaty and uncomfortable. No one wants that, let me tell you. So, you gotta be smart about what you eat. You can’t just be grabbin’ whatever you see. You need somethin’ with substance, somethin’ that’ll give you energy without the crash.
So next time your belly starts rumblin’ in the middle of the day, don’t go reachin’ for that candy bar. Think about what I told ya. Find somethin’ healthy, somethin’ that’ll keep you goin’ till suppertime. A little bit of fruit, some yogurt, maybe a piece of bread with some ham. Nothin’ fancy, just good, honest food. And remember, that peanut butter and apple thing, that’s a winner. Just make sure it’s the good stuff, the kind without all the added sugar and junk.
That’s all there is to it. Eat good, feel good. And don’t let that afternoon slump get ya down. A little snack can go a long way. Now go on, get yourself somethin’ to eat. You deserve a treat but keep it on the healthy side!
And them energy bars and bliss balls? Never heard of em. Sounds like somethin’ them city folk eat. Me? I’ll stick with what I know. Good, plain food. That’s all you need. Sometimes, I’ll pack some of this for my work, work lunch box fillers ,it good enough to keep me full for half a day, or even more. You can try that too.
