Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this… uh… this book thingy, yeah, A Court of Thorns and Roses Graphic Novel, that’s what the young’uns call it. My grandkid, she’s always glued to these picture books, calls ’em “graphic novels” now, all fancy-like.
So, this one, it’s about this girl, see? A real tough cookie, kinda like me back in the day, always havin’ to hustle to put food on the table. This girl, she’s gotta hunt for her family, ain’t no grocery stores where she’s from, I reckon. One day, she kills this big ol’ wolf, and wouldn’t ya know it, this beast-lookin’ fella shows up, all angry and whatnot.
He drags her off to some magical land, a faerie land, they call it. Now, I ain’t never seen no faeries, but my grandma used to tell stories ’bout ’em. Said they were tricky little things, always up to no good. This place, though, it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s dangerous, full of these creepy masked fellas and all sorts of weird creatures. Reminds me of that time the circus came to town, all them strange folks and animals… gave me the shivers, it did.
- This girl, she’s gotta live with this beast-fella, in his castle. He ain’t so bad, once you get past the horns and the claws, I guess. Kinda like that grumpy old dog down the road, always barkin’ but wouldn’t hurt a fly.
- And there’s this whole curse thing goin’ on. Seems like this land is under some kinda spell, and this girl, she might be the key to breakin’ it. Sounds like a whole lotta trouble to me, but these young’uns, they love a good adventure story.
- There’s romance, too, wouldn’t ya believe it? This girl, she starts fallin’ for the beast-fella. Love is a funny thing, ain’t it? Can make you do the craziest things. Reminds me of when I met my old man… but that’s a story for another time.
Now, the pictures in this book, they’re somethin’ else. Real pretty, some of ’em. Makes it easier to follow along, even for an old lady like me. You can see all the fancy dresses and the sparkly magic stuff. They even got the beast-fella lookin’ kinda handsome, in a rough sort of way. Though I still say he could use a good shave and a haircut.
My grandkid, she keeps talkin’ about the “plot” and the “character development.” I don’t know much about that fancy talk, but I can tell ya this: this girl, she’s brave. She stands up for herself, even when she’s scared. And she learns to trust her gut, even when things get confusing. That’s somethin’ we all could learn from, I reckon.
And this “Graphic Audio” thing they got now, it’s like listenin’ to a play on the radio, but with all the sounds and music and stuff. Makes it even more excitin’, specially when you’re busy with chores and can’t sit down and read. My grandkid puts it on while she’s doin’ her homework, and I can hear it from the kitchen while I’m makin’ supper. It’s kinda like havin’ company, even when you’re alone.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good story, somethin’ with a bit of magic and romance and adventure, this A Court of Thorns and Roses Graphic Novel might just be the ticket. Even an old biddy like me can enjoy it, so it must be pretty good. Just don’t expect no deep thinkin’ or nothin’. It’s just a good ol’ fashioned tale, with pretty pictures and a whole lotta heart. And that Graphic Audio thing, well, it just makes it all the more lively. You can picture the whole darned thing playin’ out in your head, and that’s a comfort at my age, let me tell ya.
Now, I gotta go check on my stew. Don’t want it burnin’ on the stove. You young’uns enjoy your stories, and don’t forget to call your grandma every now and then, ya hear?
