Hey there, you young folks! Let’s gab a bit about them…what do you call ’em? Scrunchies! Yeah, those hair thingies from back in the 90s. I tell ya, they were all the rage back then. Every gal, young and old, had a bunch of ‘em.
What are these scrunchie things anyway? Well, they ain’t nothin’ fancy. Just a bit of elastic with some cloth all bunched up around it. But, let me tell ya, they held your hair up good and looked mighty purdy too.
I remember seein’ gals with all sorts of colors. Bright colors, like pink and green and yellow, were real popular. Made ya stand out in a crowd, ya know? Then there were the velvet ones. Oh, those were fancy! Felt all soft and nice in your hair.
- Some had flowers on ‘em.
- Some were shiny and silky.
- And some were just plain ol’ cotton. But they all did the job, that’s for sure.
You could find ‘em everywhere. Drugstores, grocery stores, even at them flea markets. And they weren’t expensive neither. A few dollars could get ya a whole handful. I reckon that’s why everyone had so many. You had one for every outfit, every mood, every day of the week!
Now, I hear tell these scrunchies are makin’ a comeback. Young folks like you are wearin’ ’em again. That don’t surprise me none. What goes around comes around, as they say. And good things, well, they stick around, don’t they?
I saw some pictures online – my grandkid showed me, bless her heart – and they got all sorts now. Big ones, small ones, ones with butterflies… all sorts! Back in my day, we mostly had the regular size, but these new ones look right fun too. Makes a body want to go out and grab a few myself, though I don’t have much hair left to tie up these days, ha!
And you know what else? Some folks are even makin’ ‘em by hand! Crocheted ones, patchwork ones… it’s right impressive what they come up with. Guess that’s what they call “unique” these days. Back then, we just called it “homemade.” But either way, it’s nice to see folks puttin’ their own spin on things.
Why were they so popular? Well, for starters, they were comfy. Didn’t pull your hair out like them rubber bands. And they looked a whole lot better too. Added a little somethin’ somethin’ to your ponytail, ya know? Plus, they were just plain fun. You could match ‘em to your clothes, trade ‘em with your friends… it was a whole thing.
If you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ yourself some scrunchies, I say go for it! They’re practical, they’re pretty, and they’re a little piece of history. And who knows, maybe you’ll start a whole new trend. Just like we did back in the 90s.
So, there you have it. A little somethin’ somethin’ about them scrunchie hair thingies. They were a big deal back then, and it seems like they’re a big deal again now. And I reckon that’s just fine and dandy.
Where to find ‘em now? Well, like I said, the young ‘uns are sellin’ ‘em all over the place. Places like that Etsy thing on the internet. Or maybe even at the store, though I ain’t been to the store in a coon’s age. But I bet you can find ‘em if you look around a bit. And if you’re lucky, maybe you can find some of them real old ones from the 90s. Now those would be somethin’ special.
Anyways, I gotta go make myself some supper now. But you young folks have fun with them scrunchies. And remember, it don’t matter what you wear on your head, as long as you hold your head up high.
