Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them 70’s porn mags. Back in the day, things weren’t like they are now, all out in the open on the internet. No sir, you had to go lookin’ for this stuff. And when you found it, oh boy, it was somethin’ special.
I remember hearin’ folks talk about magazines like High Society. They said it was a big deal, comin’ outta New York City. Never saw one myself, mind you, but the fellas down at the diner, they sure did yap about it. Talked about all the pictures, you know, the kind you wouldn’t show your grandma.
Then there were all them other names, names you’d whisper more than say out loud. Anal Sex, Blue Climax, Busen, Chick, Color Climax, Danish Hard-Core, Exciting, Frivol, Playboy, Rodox… Lordy, the list went on and on. Some of them were from over in Europe, they said. Fancy stuff, I guess. But it was all the same thing, if you catch my drift.
Now, you gotta understand, these weren’t somethin’ you could just pick up at the grocery store. You had to go to special shops, places with darkened windows and magazines behind the counter. Or maybe you knew a guy who knew a guy, that sort of thing. It was all hush-hush, you know? But that’s what made it excitin’, I reckon.
Nowadays, you can find all sorts of things online, they tell me. Whole websites dedicated to this kinda stuff. I even heard there are places sellin’ these old magazines, callin’ them “vintage” and “classic”. Imagine that! Someone’s makin’ money off them old things. They even call it “retro porn” or “smut.” Well, I never! They say they got catalogs of stuff from the 70s and 80s. Full color, hardcore stuff, they say. And pictures of them “stars” like Annie Sprinkle, whoever she is.
- They got old magazines, they say.
- Stuff from the 70s and 80s.
- Even some from Britain and Europe.
I heard some folks even callin’ these magazines “history” and “art” now. Can you believe that? Back then, it was just somethin’ you hid under your mattress, not somethin’ you put in a museum. But I guess times change, huh? They say these magazines show you how things were back then, the clothes, the way people talked, how they thought about, well, you know… *sex*. They say it’s like a time capsule, showin’ you what things were like.
And it wasn’t just the pictures, neither. They had stories in them too. I heard tell of one magazine called Viva, somethin’ about “feminist porn.” Can you imagine that? A magazine for women, but with all the… well, you know. They say it talked about things like bisexuality and women who, um, “worked” in the business. That was somethin’ else, let me tell ya.
There was also magazines with all sorts of pictures, more than 200 they say! And they showed all kinds of things, what they call “kinkiness” and such. Stuff you wouldn’t see in regular magazines, that’s for sure. Rare stuff, they tell me now. Worth money, maybe. Who woulda thunk it?
Looking back, it’s kinda funny how things were. All that secrecy, all that fuss over a few magazines. But I guess that’s what made it so… interestin’. It was a different time, that’s for sure. And now, all those old magazines are bein’ dug up again, looked at in a whole new way. Makes you think, doesn’t it? About what we keep, what we throw away, and what comes back around in the end.
So yeah, them 70’s porn mags… they were somethin’ else. A secret little world hidden in plain sight. And now, they’re history, I guess. Or maybe they’re art. Or maybe they’re just old magazines. You figure it out.
