Well, if you’re wantin’ to get to Puerto Viejo, lemme tell ya, it ain’t all that hard, but you gotta know a thing or two. Now, Puerto Viejo’s right there close to the Costa Rica-Panama border, sittin’ pretty on the Caribbean coast. It’s a real beautiful spot, you know? Beaches, jungles, and all that good stuff. But, first things first, you gotta figure out how to get there.
If you’re startin’ from San Jose, you got a few options, but the bus is probably the easiest way. They got buses that leave from Terminal de Autobus Atlantico Norte, which is a fancy name for the bus station. The bus is real cheap too, so you don’t gotta be worryin’ ‘bout spendin’ all your money just on the ride. These buses go direct to Puerto Viejo, and it takes a good four or five hours, dependin’ on traffic and whatnot.
Now, if you’re feelin’ a bit fancier, you can take one of them shuttle services. There’s a company called Caribe Shuttle, and they got a good rep. They’ll pick ya up from the airport or wherever you’re stayin’ in San Jose and drive you straight to Puerto Viejo. It’s a little more expensive than the bus, but it’s comfy and you don’t gotta worry ‘bout nothin’. They even got a cancelation policy if your plans change. Not bad, huh?
If you’re more the adventurous type and don’t mind drivin’ yourself, you can rent a car and drive. You just gotta head east from San Jose, go through Cartago, then take Route 10 toward Siquierres. From there, follow Route 32 all the way to Limón, and you’ll be close to Puerto Viejo. Now, I gotta tell ya, that road can be a bit twisty and bumpy in some parts, so if you’re not used to drivin’ in places like that, it might make you a little nervous. But once you get there, you’ll see it’s all worth it!
Now, the thing you gotta know about Puerto Viejo is it’s a real popular spot for surfers. The waves there are perfect for them intermediate to advanced folks, so if you’re into surfin’, this place will make you real happy. But if you’re just wantin’ to relax, don’t you worry, there’s plenty of other things to do. The beaches are beautiful, the food’s good, and you can always take a little hike in the jungle.
For where to stay, you got lots of options too. There’s all kinds of hotels, from budget-friendly little spots to fancier places. I’d say if you want something simple and not too expensive, look for a place near the beach. You don’t wanna be too far from the ocean if you’re comin’ all the way to Puerto Viejo, right?
Another thing to think about is what you’re gonna do while you’re there. There’s so much to see, you could spend a whole week just wanderin’ around! Go check out the Cahuita National Park if you like nature. You can walk along them trails, see monkeys, sloths, and maybe even a jaguar if you’re lucky. It’s a real peaceful spot, and the ocean is right there too, so you can jump in for a swim after a good hike.
Then, if you’re into some local culture, make sure to try some Caribbean food. They got a lot of coconut-based dishes, and the seafood is real fresh. They also got some good places where you can get a cold drink and just watch the sunset over the sea. It’s the kinda place that makes ya forget all your worries.
So, there ya go. Now you know how to get to Puerto Viejo. It’s not too hard, whether you’re takin’ the bus, a shuttle, or drivin’ yourself. Just make sure to plan a little ahead, and you’ll have a good ol’ time. It’s a beautiful place with plenty to do, and once you get there, you won’t wanna leave. Trust me on that!
